Essay on Freedom and Satan in John Milton’s Paradise Lost

plaindom and Satan in paradise Lost Satans primary operational problem in Paradise Lost is his lack of obedience. The fundamental misunderstanding which leads to Satans disobedience is his separation of apologize will from Gods hierarchical power. In the angel Raphaels account, Satan tells his dominions, Orders and Degrees/Jarr non with liberty (5.792-93). Tempting as this differentiation seems, Satan is mistaken. Free will and hierarchical power are not mutually exclusive, as Satan suggests, but overlapping concepts. Even though Satan has been created with sufficient immunity to choose to disobey, he tacitly acknowledges Gods sovereignty when he exploits his choice. Satan is constrained existentially, from the outset, by having a specific choice to make about whether or not to obey God. Satan, just as all angels, demons, and humans, may exercise his freedom as assent or dissent, for God had created him Sufficient to have stood, though free to fall./Such I God created all th ethereal powers/And spirits . . . /Freely they stood who stood, and fell who fell (3.99-102 cf. 5.549). If Satan would choose neither to assent nor to dissent, thereby refusing to exercise his free will, he would be discarding his free will. But this is impossible, as the demons determine in counsel in Book II so long as he exists, Satan must make choices with respect to his possible obedience to God. If Satans first mistake was to completely divorce his free will from Gods power in giving him that freedom, his second mistake occurs in his conception of what it means to exercise that freedom. God says that Not free, what proof could they Satan et al. have given sincere/Of true consignment? (3.103-04). But Satan has exactly the... ...lthough one can choose, as Satan does, to dissent and disobey, such purportedly self-creative acts are in fact merely an confession of Gods hierarchical power. When pride and ambition to be like God prevent humans from hearing the umpire Conscience Go d has placed within us (3.195 Satan likewise has been given conscience enough to remember the call to obedience, 4.23), we become like Satan, for the same reasons constrained to listen only to the Satanic character dissenting in our ears. Obamas First Inaugural Speech -- Inauguration, American Presidents

Ted Sorensen, a former speechwriter for John F. Kennedy, believes An inaugural address is by interpretation a defining moment for any new president. An inaugural address is a stepping stone for each new administration because it creates a first burden the address marks the time when the president stops trying to win votes and starts taking action. Barack Obamas speech is filled with eloquent language, and it lived up to the expectations of both critics and the public. The speech, as depict in the Think Again section of the New York Times was ...rather than being a sustained performance with a cumulative power it was a material on which a succession of verbal ornaments was hung, and we were being invited not to move forward but to stop and ponder significances only hinted at.Just words is how a presid ent manages to operate. Zara

Threats ZARA Some threats that affect ZARA include international expansion, geographic scope, and cold competition. Zara recognizes that the company fates to defy a competitive advantage in tell apart to survive, so they are constructing a second distri entirelyion centre in Zaragoza. Also the company is still looking to expand internation wholey. Expanding in Spain is difficult for the company because of past experience in Sweden.Zara is considering expansion in North America, but is concerned that it is already suffering from retail saturation, less fashion-forward sense, the demand for plus sizes, components of competition, and not enough demand for the clothing. Zaras verticall(a)y unified model is a threat to Zara in long drive. The model depart not swear out once Zara scales its operation. Currently, Zaras designing, output signal, scattering and retails stores are tightly coupled together and operate really closely.Expanding operations in different regions such as Ameri potty or Asian requires addressing different fashion trends at a eon. Also, given different sizes and trends in different regions, it would not be easy to pull a new fashion cloth or apparel from one region and put it in other region. Plus, scaling its operation may require joint-ventures and acquiring some smaller chains in any case. In a 5050 joint venture, it is rattling difficult for Zara to impose its air model to the other partner. In this case, we have already seen Zaras joint ventures dissolving on a couple of occasions. While Zara may sustain it difficult to manage the vertically integrated model for its large scales of operation, local retailers may follow Zaras formula to success and give notice emerge as spacious threat to its success. It is not easy to beat the local retailers in their home trai permit. For example, the Local apparel market in Italy is still owned 61% by the independent stores, 45% in Spain (Note that this is Zaras local market too) and 15-30% in other three major European markets.Specially, in a country with very shabby labour (mostly in Asia), it go bad be very difficult for Zara to keep up its production in Spain. Zaras trading model is based on eer changing fashion. For countries like US, where people are less fashion forward, it may be a challenge for Zara to sustain its presence. With changing clipping, Advertisement is becoming an primal part of the line of descent and it reflects directly to the sales. Zaras in-store advertisement model may not work going forward. Most sober threat to Zara is to sustain its success. Another most serious threat to Zara is its growth. The company could not acquire large market shares in the domestic market. Even in Europe, the company does not have a just presence. American and Asian markets have different types of challenges, which Zara may be facing in future. American market is less fashion forward, which questions Zaras basic business model itself. Asia, on the other hand, is known for its cheap labour.Competing with these challenges at a magazine in different markets, temporary hookup keeping its vertically integrated business model intact is the most serious challenge for Zara. Zara cannot address different requirements and challenges working from its home reparation just now. It can have multiple vertically integrated productions for each region. For Asia, having cheap labour will definitely add a lot to the operating personify. The RIFF also called smart tags it is very serviceable for track trace the cargoes from manufacture to warehouse to store to end user. Every check points can be provided the real time information and return the information into the system to ensure the inventory control or material requirements planning (MR.).In addition, RIFF can be capturing all information in a lot of cargoes a second of time. To speed up the receiving and shipping functions in the distribution productivity, it can found out the lost, missing items at the same time, if he warehouse need to arrange the stock take arrangement then can be faster the also can be using for security threats for the retails store. The RIFF tags can be make-up more data in the tags including the color, size, location, inventory etc. They through the reader will get all information from the take hold machines. All up-to- date and accuracy information will automatically scan the data and help to reduce the cycle time. Once receive the manufacture order will produce the difference pattern and color, normally they can provide the finished materials around 1 week. 5. Operations The main operational risks the Group has to face up to arise out of a potential h indrance in recognizing and taking in the ongoing changes in fashion trends, manufacturing, supplying and putting on the market new models meeting customers expectation. The Group reduces the exposure to this risk through a manufacturing and procurement system that ensures a reasonable flexibility to answer to the unforeseen changes in the demand by our customers.Stores are permanently in touch with the designer team, through the Product Management Department, and this allows perceiving the changes of taste of the customers. Meanwhile, the vertical integration of the transactions allows cutting the manufacturing and delivery terms as well as reducing the stock volume, while the reaction capacity that allows the introduction of new products throughout the season, is kept.Given the relevance that an efficient logistics management has on the appearance of such risks, the Group conducts a review of all the factors which may have a negative impact on the target of achieving the maximum efficiency of the logistics management, to actively monitor such factors under the supervision of the Logistics Committee. 4. 3 KIT Objective Multi-pronged approach High quality, quick response, flexibility Attacks waste Anything not adding value to product (customer view) Exposes problems and bottlenecks caused by division Deviation from optimum Achieves contour production (pull system) Reduced inventorySimplified Execution Push system material is pushed into downstream workstations regardless of whether resources are available Pull system material is pulled to a workstation Just as it is needed KIT Characteristics A Fixed, Steady Rate of Production Uniform flow/communicated to vendors Mixed model, linear production Low Inventories Less space, investment Uncover defects Small Lot Sizes Less WHIP Flexibility/ f number Fast feedback Quick, Low Cost Setups Flexibility/Velocity Small lot sizes Layout U-shaped cellular/flexible Preventive Maintenance Repair Worker pride/ownership Empo wered Workers Multifunctional/Cooperative (Guerilla squad)Flexible capacity High Quality Levels On-going production Small/ popular deliveries Product simplification Standardization Fewer part numbers/drawings Reliable Suppliers Dock-to-stock Much fewer in number long relationships A Pull formation of Moving Goods Request-based Kanata signal Commitment to Problem Solving/ Continuous Improvement KIT Advantage Use KIT to overtake virtually all inventory Build systems to help employees produce a perfect part every time suppliers Eliminate all but value-added activities prove the workforce Make jobs more challenging Reduce the number of Job classes and build worker flexibilityReduce downtime by reducing changeover time Use load maintenance to reduce breakdowns Cross-train workers to help clear bottlenecks Reserve capacity for important customers Conventionalism Wisdom Strategic Attainability vs. costliest cost with acceptable quality, consistent quality zero defectlnventoriesLarge i nventories from Quality buying discounts Manufacturing economies of scale Safety stock protection inventories with reliable continuous flow deliveryFlexibilityLong minimum lead times minimum flexibilitys lead times customer-service driven, much flexibilityTransportationLeast cost within acceptable arrive elaborately reliable service lavenders/charactering adversarial relationships venture partnerships of Vendors careerism avoid sole sourcing and dependency exposure semipermanent open relationshipCommunicationsMinimal many secrets tightly controlled sharing of info Joint problem solvingGeneralBusiness is cost derivativeness is service driven 3. 2 3. 5 Order Management dodging Order-management system principal kernel buyers and sellers communicate information relating to individual orders of product. Effective order management enhances operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. Firms that lid order-management systems around full understanding of customer need can out-compete others. Firms tend to place corporate order-management function within the logistics area so as to achieve timely and accurate information of individual customer orders. Order management has become an innovator in exploiting new technological advances.ZaraTitle Warehouse Inventory Management A Case Study in Retail Fashion Industry Company Name Ezra International Objective for a warehouse management Is fully utilize the space, Improved the productivity of operations flow and reduce the Inventory carrying cost. From the case of Ezra, I found that they arranging the cross- dock rather then typical storage function. Because they have the commitment about the order fulfillment time from warehouse to stores, for examples 24 hours to European countries, 48 hours to American and within 72 hours to Japan. So Sara warehouse needs to have efficient operations arrangement with the automatic middling equipment to achieve the fast fashion goal. (90 words) 1. 1 Functional Design The typical warehou se functions have five main processes receiving, pathway, storage, pick pack and dispatch. If we need to understand and well planning the warehouse design and layout. Primarily we must understanding the industry business strategy, trend and consumer behavior. Nowadays the warehouse functions are not only for storage and also need to provide the added value service to fulfill the business needed.First of all, we need to learn the product nature and understand business Intention. For the retail fashion Industry, the raw materials appliers from Fabric Company mainly. The cloths have difference color, pattern and natural of fabric (wool, cotton, leather etc. ), the suppliers must have sufficient raw materials to provide to the industry for further processing. Second, we need to understand the nature of products, for example packaging (cartons, boxes, pallets, hangers etc), size, stock keeping unit (SKIS) and stock layout.Third, we need to know the production, work in process for example suppliers order, shipment order, size of markets served, material handling system used, throughput rate, production lead time, aisle requirement etc. If we need to provide the fast and accuracy operations flow, all parties within the supply chain also need to provide the co-operation thoroughly, Including fabric supplier, accessories supplier, garment manufacturer, garment processor, designer, distribution centre, warehouse, customer service levels etc. 218 words) Basic warehouse operation process for retails fashion Industry (Figure 1)- Irrespectively of deliveries from suppliers (raw materials) Involve the processing of relevant business documents Capture and entry of the actual physical details of each delivery Quality checking products to ensure compliance with the arches radiotherapy Pathway involves allocating a storage location Physically moving the item to the location Ensure correct information is entered in the inventory control reclassifications involves keeping products in their allocated location.Moving items to picking locations as required and waiting for production. Prognostications in factory Produce the finished geodesics biophysically selecting each items and quantity from stock to fill the order Packing the order for transportation to avoid damage or electrocardiographs the necessary documentation for the transport operator Planning the loading of delivery remonstration and delivery routes Physically loaded the vehicles / containers to maximize cube utilization and minimize damage. (167 words) 1. Warehouse layout and design According to the captioned operations flow, I designed the typical Hong Kong, according to the website information, Established apparel retails in the Asia Pacific region, and over 1700 stores operating in 31 territories worldwide. The warehouse to arrange the Just In Time TOT) operations and 95 of productions lines outsource to Asia factories and still have 5 arranging the in-house production and after the production a ll finished goods will send to central warehouse to arrange the distribution function. The inbound area including the inspection function to ensure the receiving goods have good quality, if the cargo for raw materials will pass to temporary storage area to waiting the processes for the manufacturing and assembly storage. If the cargo for finished goods will pass to outbound are for storage and waiting for distribution to the town stores. From the figure 2, difference storage area to arrange the difference style of cargoes, for examples block stacking storage area or small accessories. Finished goods warehouse for set of processes and capabilities that enhance the company ability to serve the physical distribution. The hanger area for the finished fashion, 2 level racking areas for the box garment cargoes, the block stacking area for the picking area and ready to release for the shipment. Because to fulfill the maximum height of the building will using the double stack design combined with racking system and hanger system. Also using the U-shaped layout to arrange the operation flow, to improve the utilization of dock resources and facilities he cross-docking for outsource finished goods to saving the time and avoid the inefficiency. (276 words) 751 words 2. Facilities planning and materials handling After the warehouse layout and design, the other most important decisions for a warehouse operations management to arrange facility planning and how to increasing the effective capacity and minimize aisle space. Because the planning aim for reduce number of time products handled and develop effective working conditions to reduce movement involving manual labor and the main thinking to reduce cost. Warehouse management system (WHIMS) to operating processes and speed up all warehousing functions. It can be operate all documents and information flow, including receiving order, delivery order, inventory record, location allocation, releasing order etc. It is usually inves tigation with larger and more complex distribution operations. The WHIMS development to optimal capacity of warehouse operation for the industry to deliver the right goods at the right time, in the right place and do the right thing at the right cost, to increasing distribution efficiency by shorten lead time and reduce the uncertainty. So for the target at technology related savings, productivity benefits and business process enhancements enabling the great return on investment. The captioned graphic (Figure 3) showing WHIMS operated functions in the warehouse and helping the logistics process. It is including the warehouse layout design, storage data information, operations flows and stock record section, through the information transaction in WHIMS with other additional tools (RFC, barricading, resource management etc. , the objective for WHIMS to provide systematic and computerized procedures to handling the logistics flow. It also helping to monitor the progress ensures the time ly report and communication between the productions and operations sections for the data analysis. Besides the WHIMS for a retails fashion warehouse, there should have some equipments and tools to handling the cargo movement in the warehouse, for ensure the products handle at faster and smooth for the flow to assist the operational efficiency. (307 Words) 2. Full automation advantage On the other hand, some warehouse are using fully automatic mechanism to help the workflow, the products are moved from/to the locations with a automated conveyors, using the audio frequency (RFC) to arrange the sorting arrangement also with logistics automation software to tracking the cargo information to arrange pathway function and ensure the warehouse fully utilize the space. The WHIMS databases also helping to improve the efficiency of the warehouse and ensure the inventory levels have real time control and accurate view the inventory information. The full automation to help the workflow to save ti me, labor and space, because the mechanization can be operate 24 hours and more accuracy, after that to gain the time efficiency and reduce mistakes (double handling) to improve the productivity. Because in a fashion industry is definitely a fast moving operation model, since they requested to keep accurate, vast SKU and fast marketing sense, so the quickly operations response will helping them to develop the business promotion and catch the consumer demand.According to the captioned requirement for an industry, the state-of-the-art automatic system will help them to ensuring accuracy, efficiency and controlled cost. For example automatic serration system Garment on hanger (GOGH) sorter is a practical system for fashion industries together with automated conveyor it is very helpful for the pick pack arrangement. Ezra using the auto labeling system to ensure the shipping mark on the carton and through the WHIMS information to optimizing to arrange the loading operations. The automati c hanger system and location system to guarantee the cargo move to/from right locations and also with Radio frequency identification (RIFF) is one of the powerful mechanization and technologies for the supply chain management. From year 2004, Marks Spencer (MS) was trial run the RIFF system to track clothing from distribution centre to retails store and year 2006 have 53 stores used, to track menswear and inventory control with bile RIFF readers. Year 2010 news from twitched. Com, MS used at least 800 million of tag for the RIFF system. The RIFF tags to help to achieve the 100 stock accuracy by ensuring the right goods at the right size in the right store to meet the customer demand. Mr.. James Stafford, head of clothing RIFF at MS said that the RIFF is a good examples to prove that the new technology how to increased the business efficiency and customer services. (399 words) 706 words 3. 1 Information Technology (IT) in Sara warehouse Ezra is the leader of fast fashion in the world. She is holding by Inedited Group from Spain. The annual report 2009 mentioned Ezra represented approximately two thirds of Inedited sales.Ezra have 1,723 stores in 77 countries around the world at year 2010. Ezra located four distribution centers in Spain at cities (Figure 4) Artesia, Leon, Madrid Saratoga. The factories will send the finished cargoes to difference logistics center in shortest transaction time. They have over 20 factories for production in Spain and deliver with own railway track move all finished cargoes to Artesia as a central logistical center to provide the distribution and cross docking functions (Figure 5).So the warehouse manger needed to achieve the fast fashion process, and shorter order fulfillment time, to avoid the uncertainty and mishandling for the operations flow (Katz Abjure, 2005). According to Shannon action for inbound arrangement, the cargo direct transact to loading docks for outbound shipment, without inventory cost added. It is create more fl exible optimization criteria, reduce the handling, and increase the operation efficiency for the warehouse management.Cross-Dock Direct Ship in warehouse management, Figure 5 information from Oracle IT system can help the manager to achieve the fast, deed value and no mistake objective in the cross-dock function. The manager controlling the automatic equipments (for examples serration system, auto hanger system automatic conveyors) and WHIMS to help the order processing arrangement to speed up and managed the operations needed to squeeze the processing time in the warehouse, with Sara electronic integration the manager can catch up more data to planning the operation flows, flow the captioned IT system to achieve the objection for Ezra. The Ezra concept to simply and easier the management, so the IT communicate information flow through the wholes supply chain parties (Figure 6) to improve the workflow and narrow down the operating time and reduce the human error. Figure 6 Ideal Opera tion Flow about the Ezra IT Sara store manager will place the new orders twice a week through personal digital assistant (PDA) and each delivery must have new models. Divorc es are higher during any period of dramatic economic change. Although Im sure my grandparents blamed themselves, their divorce was a product of the economy and society. The same theory holds true for my parents. When they divorced, they blamed themselves, wondering what each had done wrong, as I did. When I look at what was happening in the economy, the similarities with my grandparents are escaped to see. The nation- wide divorce rate was up dramatically and the economy was beginning to take a terrible turn for the worse.(2)When people ask me why I enrolled in college a year ago, I usually answered that I enrolled because I wanted to. I realize now that my answer cannot be quite that simple. Because my family regenerate believed that the pill was finally proven safe in 1963, I was able to plan my family. In doing so, my son and daughter are nearly raised and I am still young enough to pursue a second career. Numeric Investors

Diversey, founded in 1923, in Chicago, currently sales in 160 countries. It started its operations in India during the year 1998 as one of the major providers of cleaning, sanitization and hygienics products and dissolvents to institutional customers across the industries in India market. It established itself as pioneer in providing the cleaning, sanitation and hygiene needs of the large g everyplacenment and private institutional clients from different industries in India. The clientele spread across various industry segments like hotels, airports, metro, railways, hospitals, shop malls, offices of the MNCs companies etc.Challenges in Indian Industry- The cleaning industry in India is majorly unformed sector accounting for almost 70% of the market. The perception of cleaning as a daily chore rather than a science followed by the lack of aw arness on the criticality and sustainable benefits of hygiene and cleaning resulted in lot of resistance and reluctance on the part of the ins titutional customers, in accepting the need to shift from labor-oriented cleaning process to technology-oriented cleaning products and services. Diversey wanted to transplant this mind-set in India market. It gained more than 30% of the market share in the organized cleaning market segment by 2012. It was the only company in India, which was in the business of providing end-to-end cleaning product and services solutions to the customers and it had a nearest global competitor in Ecolab, who also entered the India market directly in 2008. In the cleaning equipment segment, Diversey competed with 4-5 key namely Roots Multiclean, Eureka Forbes, Diversey, Dulevo and Karcher. However, unlike Diversey, most of these equipment players focused only on offering the cleaning equipment products.Point of distinction A total solution provider, which combined the cleaning, sanitation and hygiene product offering with consulting services to improve operational efficiency for its customers. Offer ing cleaning products, which did non involve any banned chemicals or harmful substances. -Offering the best quality product to its customers and provided supplementary education and awareness on need based work of the same Segmentation 1. According to type of industry- building service contractors, hospitality & healthcare, retail & food service and food & beverage 2.According to sizing of customer- it divided its customer according to the size within any industry as a. International large accounts as customer having presence in multiple countries b. Large domestic local accounts as five star hotels, large corporate hospitals, large Indian corporates c. Mid-size units as hotels, hospitals and offices and d. Smaller units as roadside eateries, offices, shops Goal A sales handover of INR 10,000 million by 2015. Problem Identification There are primarily five main issues that have been identified. 1.How to bench mark the products and services against the local competition, especiall y against the low-cost and low-quality local players, who were offering low-quality but cheaper products for cleaning purpose. 2. How to change the social mindset of majority of the Indian customers, who believed that cleaning and hygiene was a day-to-day chore, which did not require anything else other than any simple cleaning agent. 3. How to convey the importance of applying the right type and composition of chemical solution for each of the specific need, i. e. he one-size-fits-all mindset of the Indian customers.4. How to create a distribution channel, which could change the existing relationship and convert Dhobis to Diversey. 5. How to manage the inventory of reluctant moving but time critical spare parts for the cleaning equipments Strategic options To capture market share in organized sector 1. take the eventual low cost of use of Diversey products in the long run to by linking it to the costs reduced due to reduced maintenance costs. 2. Focus on attracting the attention of customers of hospitality, edical-care, airlines etc on the health aspect through advertisements and print ads in magazines served in hotels, airlines etc. which is achieved far better by using diversey products. This in turn would lead to increased demand of diversey products as the customers would be more health-conscious and force the above industries to cater to their demand which would be fulfilled by diverseys products. 3. fight back on the fact that diversey gives personalized end to end service and after sales service according to the needs of the clients.Communicate that diversey uses world class products which are highly safe and effective. Hence it increases the life of the surface on which the product is used and does not affect the health of the applicant. To capture market in unorganized sector 1. Its important to change the mindset of spate to shift from water-based cleaning to chemical-based cleaning which could be achieved by giving free demonstrations at their homes by hiring trained cleaning gangs. 2. Increase brand awareness through advertisements which focus on the health and germ protection advantage by the use of diversey products over the use of cleaning by water. And specially focus on children protection from germs which would drive families spending into diversey products.3. Create awareness through social media through videos and blogs highlight the superiority of diversey products over pochas and involve young minds into it who will be the future prospective buyers. 4. Portray diversey products as safe which can be used by all members of the family, reduces time to clean and gives effective results. . Use R&D to come up with a multi-purpose product which could satisfy one-fits-all mindset of the people. Diversification 1. leave behind cleaning service to clients by hiring cleaning gangs or recruiting and training people as training gangs on daily or weekly or periodic basis as per clients requirements.2. Enter into business o f cleaning houses by launching in tier 1 and tier 2 cities where people could use diversey products to clean their clothes which could bring in customers by eliminating dhobis and in turn promote diversey products. 3. Foray nto the business of providing waste handling and storage equipments as this business would supplement their core business. Inventory reduction 1. Standardization of products and use of common parts to make different products would reduce inventories 2. Identification of parts of products and not stocking those which could be manufactured quickly after the demand of the product. 3. Tracking of demand of each product from each region over time should be do which would give a fairly rough estimate of the inventories to be kept for that product.

Perfection Definition Essay

Too often we aim for sinlession and berate ourselves when we fall short. Some of us avoid that humiliation by simply giving up. I dont want you to give up. I want you to aim high, certainly, but dont stop simply because you didnt achieve perfection. thither atomic number 18 two points I will make tonight. first off, perfection for us mere mortals is by its rattling nature im contingent to achieve. Secondly, to achieve perfection is not actually a desirable thing. Firstly, why is perfection impossible? god being correct in every detail escapes our practical attempts to achieve it. Firstly much like beauty perfection is in the eye of the beholder. One mans perception of the perfect meal is only fit for pigs in the view of another. Notions of perfection are therefore relative relative to the individual, to their culture, to their notions of right and wrong. Thus, perfection defeats any notion of an objective definition. As well, we humans are not created for perfection, we are created to survive.Humans learn by making mistakes and surviving. It simply does not make sense to be a race that seeks to perfect a single thing whilst all else goes to pot. We do have feet of clay and so every thing we do carries that fatal flaw in its making. Consider the very highest works of art. The Mona Lisa often considered a towering achievement of art was painted by Leonardo da Vinci over the course of 17 years, and it only came to its legitimate state when he died. So clearly that painting is not perfection. Consider also the dangers and rigours of the space race and its complete intolerance of crack. Billions upon billions have been spent in the space race, and yet, despite monumental effort, despite the humanss brightest minds and most developed systems, tiny flaws come into the machinery that powers the astronauts aloft, and when that occurs, people die in disasters such as the Columbia and Challenger disasters.Perfection requires far too much work and is unattai nable. We cannot define perfection objectively, and in any case as flawed and ticklish humans our creations must also be imperfect. Perfection is impossible. Secondly, even if perfection were possible, would it be good for us? As we know, George Douglas Duke of Argyll said, Every advance has a sensitive horizon. Even the very best, having achieved the highest levels of excellence that humans are capable of eventually see their high water mark eclipsed by competitors or, sometimes, by themselves. Nadia Comaneci obtained perfect scores in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, only to have those performances surpassed by later athletes. If perfection were achieved, we would, perversely, stagnate and fail. As humans, we need to progress and grow, to strive to achieve and to fly ball above our flawed nature. The myth of progress, of higher, faster, better, caresses the ego of each of us to exceed the performance of those that went before. Were it not possible were perfection attained we wou ld not strive with our own personal arrogance to better our betters and succeed. Perfection would become a straitjacket colouring our world with the blandness of mediocrity, where our will to succeed would be sapped by the knowledge that we can do no better. Perfection is not desirable. Now consider the original question. Who needs perfection? The simple answer is that no-one needs perfection. Perfection is not possible due to our flawed and fragile natures, and in any event we cannot agree what perfection is. Perfection is also not desirable, as perspicacious that we can do no better than our predecessors removes our desire to strive to succeed. In fact we need imperfection. We need to see an opportunity to better the world, to break new grounds of excellence. We need to set the challenge, to stake our claim in the ground and ask all before us to better that mark of excellence. In doing so we must recognise that what we have done is not perfect, and that what we have done contains flaws.Imperfection allows us to advance our small corner of the world, and it allows us to challenge our successors to shape up upon our work. There is nothing perfect in this world, but the world can be made better by our own actions. Ladies and gentlemen, perfection is neither possible nor desirable. Who needs perfection? No-one needs perfection. There will always be a flaw, some minute imperfection, that will allow us to advance. In that imperfection there is hope. As men with feet of clay, should you aim for perfection, you will assuredly fail in that endeavour. That is no reason to abandon the task, though, as you will leave the world in a better state than before you took up your tools. Stand firm, stand proud, and say no-one needs perfection.

A Wag Whenever one sits down to write on the mess that one finds in the bena of higher education, one is soft on(p) by a sense of dJ vu as well as a sense of inability to say nything new. Pawan Agarwals comprehensive paper that he wrote for CRIER, the excellent report by National familiarity Commission (headed by the irrepressible Sam Pitroda) are Just two of the many articles that easily happen to mind. The first one mentioned, has exhaustive data at a fairly disaggregated level so that this aspect demand not detain us here. The issues and challenges in this context -that are fairly well understood are diverse not typical. Thus, the challenge is not epistemological but one of political leave behind and at a more mundane level of implementation. In India, it oes not take a genius to point out the problems in any sphere, least(prenominal) of all in the higher educational sector. The point however is (ought to be) to identify workable solutions. In this article I depart concent rate on the depicted object, tractableness and lumber issues that beset the higher educational sector in India and suggest some steps that need to be taken to remedy the situation.Rest assured, there will be no magic wand and no single solution. Help and initiative from whatever quarter must be sought and grabbed by both hands. A bouquet approach will alone be realistic, driven by ragmatism rather than ideology. Whilst finance is undoubtedly important, I argue that governance is the key. The essentials of the base are easily told Despite tremendous expansion in the sector, there is inadequate capacity and hence access after all we have 350 universities with immense enrollment (one of the largest in the world). The agreement is characterized by rigidity with absolutely no flexibility we have degrees being offered in a rigid framework with rattling little choice for the students (who should matter the most) and the regulations are archaic with peculiar unresponsiveness to the cu rrent context. Thanks to the perverse hiring policies and protracted procedures (not to mention politics with and without state interference) the quality of faculty is in a state of rapid decline. The reasons and solutions are well known and yet some of them bear repetition.Having made a first let down let us revisit the issues in some detail, but first some preliminaries. India is at cross roads. It has all the pretensions of emerging as a intimacy economy and yet the clipping is running out for it to catch the bus. Surely, we dont require Thomas Friedman to point out the gravity of the situation. After all, what we o today by way of investment will have a decisive influence fifteen years from now. For that is how long (even in these fast paced times) it takes for changes in educational system to fructify. It is no secret that a genuine knowledge has a prerequisite of solid foundation provided by educational institutions characterized by relevance and excellence in training and research. This then must provide us with the parametric environment for what follows. The long queues in front of the colleges as well as the screaming headlines in the newspapers, starkly present the scarcity of capacity in the higher educational sector. The premium that the seats in better colleges for almost all the courses attract is third estate knowledge.Whilst there are supervisory mechanisms in place (de Jure) we know that supervision many a time means additional side payments. As an aside, the alone solution lies in self enforcing system design which in this case would clearly imply removal of striuctural and overall scarcities through increased capacities. The National Knowledge Commission (NKC) report talks of vista up 50 National Universities (over a period) with augmented resources leading to capacity enhancement. on that point is the private universities bill which should help too. There is a scope for great enhancement of capacity in the PPP modality, for which t he regulation has to be more welcoming if not friendly. Whilst there is a need to think out of box, there is no denying the fact that the traditional state funding mode will however continue to be of importance for at least some time to come. We must once and for all put an end to view that improvements are possible witn Just non-monetary means. This implies a self cover song commitment on the part of governments at all levels to provide the necessary financial resources. The urrent spending on higher education that is pegged at around 0. 7% of GDP must be doubled. This will require a serious lobbying effort. In this context, it may be noted that there is much that can be done by the institutions on their own in terms of raising resources. Alumni represent a huge potential source, so also setting up of off shore campuses and attracting foreign students are other obvious sources. However, this will require some amendments in the existing provisions of the Act, also, experience suggest s that such efforts are rewarded by cut back in aid, instead of matching incentive grants being proffered. Such efforts in the past have been post facto subjected by the government, to thoroughgoing(a) restrictions on the use of monies so collected. Clearly there is a governance issue involved here. This apart, the required enabling (through regulatory changes) of private sector is a must for the purposes of raising supplementary resources. The private endowments which at one time were significant, have to be restored through incentive based legislation. At the same time the interference as distinct from engagement of the State in all aspects of education has to be significantly reduced, curiously in the operations and rocedural aspects. This has been a major shell that led to the Universities being converted into patron saints of mediocrity The state must truly practice private enablement with oversight from a distance. Of course, the processes involved in the setting up in t he national universities (or even investing in old ones are so long drawn and convoluted that with the given absorption capacity of the institutions it will be some time before the plan becomes a reality. Also, and more importantly, the paucity with regard to the attendant requirement of quality faculty (which we shall ook at later) is so great that even with physical infrastructure the delivery will not be assured. This requires some bold and innovative thinking and application which requires a key governance initiative. The external agencies like the corporations and industries will have to play (be enabled to do so) a major role.In the interim, I would suggest that IT enabled distance learning mode as well as the platform for e-learning have to be exploited to the fullest extent. This will require huge organization and collaborative effort of the best minds. It is especially required to mention this here ecause these avenues (particularly the first mentioned) are pretty much have received step treatment and have been left to the whims and fancies of the second raters. This has created sections of milch cows that fraudulently extract money from the hapless students and give nothing in return.

A Qualitative Analysis on How Administrators Understand Learning Difficulties

Allington, Frazen and Schick (1997) in their qualitative analysis of How administrators understand learnedness difficulties tried to determine the different ways in which instill administrators define encyclopaedism difficulties and how they have respond to the gather ups of students with learning difficulties in their own schoolhouses. The researchers interviewed administrators and principals in six different school districts that had a record of increased retention and transitional grade headments as well as having at-risk students in learning disabilities classrooms. Previous literature on learning disabilities has showed that the trend of the identification of students as learning modify had been increasing over the last 20 years and continues to do so at present. It has been found that the total of students identified as learning disabled have grown to alarming proportions.A number of researchers have proposed that the increase in the number of students identified as lea rning disabled have been due to the more valid and reliable assessment tools available to schools, the influence of special interest groups and the actual presence of students who do need special education services. Moreover, it has been observed that whenever funding for remedial programs decline, enrollment in special education classes increase indicating that some students identified as learning disabled may actually be placed in special education classes out of necessity. This study therefore attempted to provide evidence that school administrators and principals place at risk students to special classes for students with learning difficulties based on funding and tests scores.MethodThe researchers developed a system which enhanced the validity of the data gathered in this study considering that it is a qualitative design. The researchers conducted their data gathering procedure by prolonged and persistent fieldwork that included interim data analysis and collaboration to introd uce the accuracy of research findings and participant reality by utilizing and analyzing a series of data sets generated as part of a larger study (Allington & McGill-Franzen, 1992a, 1992b, 1995 McGill-Franzen 1994 McGill-Franzen & Allington, 1993 found in Allington, Frazen & Schick, 1997).This was in response to the researchers observation that the internal validity of their data might be compromised since over the years principals and administrators have remained in their positions and the school system in general have remained unchanged while the social culture and economic status of their students have been transformed through the years.

Education On Health Promotion Essay

Q. 1 Validity is said to be the power to bring over about the cobblers lasts that have been found. It is the strength that the conclusion has to convince others on the facts that have been outlined. There argon said to be four types of validity namely external, conclusion, wee-wee and internal validity (http//www. brainyquote. com). The external validity is about the ability to generalize the findings to other settings, the conclusion looks for a relationship between the outcomes and the program, the construct validity determines the heading of a relationship between concepts in a sight and an actual casual relationship and finally the internal validity looks for the relationship between the study object and the outcomes of the study. On the other hand, reliability is said to be the ability to get the same results over and over again when performing the same turn out at divergent time (http//www. asiamarketresearch. com).It is said to estimate how consistent your touchstones are. For a tool of measurement to be reli commensurate, it has to give the same results when aimd at different times by different people to measure the same liaison. It quite a little be tested through use different questions that measure the same thing to see if the answers are consistent while the test/retest method means getting the same findings for the same test done at different times but under the same conditions. Validity and reliability willing be use in the dissertation to test the conclusion. First checking on the reliability of the tools of measurements does this. This ensures that the entropy provided for the study is to be trusted as being sic. It also helps eliminate the randomness that contains some inconsistencies. Once all the reliable data has been compiled, it tail assembly indeed be used to arrive at some conclusion. This conclusion will be valid if all the measurements that have been done have involved the data that was supposed to be measured. If one has been using the correct data using reliable tools consequently the conclusion will be a valid one. The correct questions have to be asked in relation to the topic and the measurement tools have to be reliable for the conclusion to be valid.Q. 2 When starting a intent one begins with choosing a topic on which to research on (http//www. ri. net/schools/East_Greenwich/research. html). This topic should not be too general as to include subjects that are not relevant to the researcher instead it should be very specific on what is to be research on. When choosing a topic, one uses the tool of research called the military personnel mind. This is because a topic is chosen according to how the researcher perceives the surroundings and thus requires reasoning and analyzing which uses the brain. Next is gathering the relevant background information concerning the topic. This can be done through the use of the computer and its software. It is done to get the most basic information on the c hosen topic. This information can be supplemented by the use of the library where one can find encyclopedias among other sources. This information is used to refine the chosen topic (http//www. ri. net/schools/East_Greenwich/research. html). If there is requisite to change the research topic it is done now. After revisiting your topic, you now need to gather the information needed. This is done by the use of the computer and the library. This information is then supplemented by fieldwork, which uses different methods of gathering information. This is done to confirm or challenge the statistics gotten from the library and computer software. While conducting the field research, one has to estimate the reality of the tools of measurement so as to ensure the information gotten is correct and in the process eliminate those, which contain errors after this is done, the information is coded and analyzed. The information is now ready for use to get the conclusion and then organize it to be able to write it in a way that the reader will understand. When it comes to the writing part, the language to be used has to be chosen carefully. It has to be a language accessible to all the presumed readers. The research is then written and is used to justify the problem literary argument and wherefore the project should be undertaken. The conducting of a research and writing of a dissertation are the actual start of a project. This is because they justify the reason why the project can now start. each the six tools of research are used to ensure that the information provided in the research is reliable and valid. One can only gain contract in the use of these tools by conducting many researches.By writing dissertations and research papers, one ahs to use these tools and in so doing gets a lot of experience in their use. Over time one gets to learn how to use the various tools. When it comes to computers, one has to solicit the help of computer keens an also using the help ico n in the computer. For a researcher, it is very useful to join research projects as an assistant researcher. This ensures that one gains a lot of experience and by working with an expert researcher one is able to pick up quite a number of tricks in the research field. Also as a research assistant, one does a lot of work and so is able to come up with new and more effective ways of using the tools of research. On top of this, one is able to choose which tools they can use best and which ones they need to work on to understand how they are used. To learn to be an expert researcher, one can only go through the above mentioned process of first becoming a research assistant. The expert researcher has to be able to use the six tools of research namely the human mind, the computer and its software, the statistics, the traditional library, tools of measurement and the language facility. It one has gone through the process of becoming a research assistant, there is knowledge gained from consta nt use of the tools and one can then be able to decide which tools they are most comfortable using. All the tools are important and necessary to any researcher but the order of importance assigned to each tool is what differs from researcher to researcher. It is only through experience of having worked on many research projects does one become competent in the use of all the tools and so that is what any novice researcher concentrates more on.Q. 3 The dissertation topic is education on health promotion. From the interview with the researcher, I have learned how to use the six tools of research in the dissertation topic. By using the human mind, the topic, which is education on health promotion, was chosen. Using the computer and its software, the topic will be researched on and the basic knowledge gathered. Since the topic has equal materials to be used, it will not be changed. The information is then supplemented with that from the traditional library. After the topic has been re-a ffirmed, the field information will be collected and this will be done by using tools of measurement that are reliable (http//www. ih. gov/news/researchtools/).Once the information has been collected, it is then analyzed, cleaned and coded. The findings will now be used in writing the paper. When writing the paper the language to be used has to be that which the targeted readers can understand. When writing one has to avoid plagiarism and ensuring that any information from other sources is cited will do this. The paper must be in the proper format and should include all the parts of a project paper. The conclusion will have to support the topic and reason for the research. It will therefore have to support education on health promotion
